The fourth annual La Familia Charity Poker Tournament, sponsored by Phoenix Media,will be June 25th at the Encore Poker Club, immediately following the Slottery and will be an extention of the VIP Party and festivities (approx 1pm)
This year we have special new program for our poker players. The buy-in is 25 dollars, and gets you 10,000 chips just like previous years. All money goes back to the players and the house takes NO RAKE However, this year you are able to exchange cans for bonus chips at the rate of ONE CAN = 50 chips up to a maximum of 50 cans=2,500 bonus chips.
All food and drink specials enjoyed by participants to the VIP Party will carry over to the poker tournament as well, so players are encouraged to attend both...
FOODWARS is a dryfood drive / hip hop benefit show. At its core however, Foodwars is a friendly (yet very competitive) contest between local emcees to determine who has the most dedicated fanbase. Every rapper loves to tell us how he/she has got it "popping on the block and what not" but here is a revolutionary opportunity to put those words into action. Each artist will rely on his/her individual fanbase to donate as much canned food as possible. All food will be counted and scores will be kept. The winner will be decalred "King of the Hungry 2011". ALL FOOD RAISED WILL GO DIRECTLY TO LOCAL FAMILIES
In one night we were able to raise:
600 blankets
200 warm coats
300 sweatshirts
and several buckets full of hats, gloves, scarves...
benefitting the Downtown Chapel and going directly to the lives of Portlands less fortunate
